WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HIIT?

LOW COST, HIGH GAIN

With HIIT, there are so many benefits such as saving time, no equipment needed, and versatility.

  • HIIT allows you to achieve the same health benefits as moderate intensity continuous training but in a fraction of the time

    • Once again, you cut the amount of time recommended for each week in half when you choose HIIT over other methods such as moderate continuance training

  • Unlike other workouts, HIIT doesn't require any special equipment so you can even do it from the comfort of your home

  • HIIT can be personalized to fit your wants and needs such as working out at the park, taking a spin class, or just doing jumping jacks in your living room!

  • HIIT is often perceived to be more enjoyable than continuous training because it adds something new and exciting to someone's workout plan (Bartlett et al., 2011).

EASY START TO A HEALTHIER HEART

HIIT has shown to increase cardiorespiratory fitness, specifically VO2 max, in individuals of all health levels.

  • In healthy individuals, their VO2 max increased by nearly double when compared to moderate intensity continuous training (Karlsen, 2017).

  • For individuals with hypertension, HIIT training has been shown to improve all areas of their cardiovascular health such as stroke volume.

  • With your heart having such a crucial role in your body, who wouldn't want to improve it significantly by adopting HIIT?

WEIGHT LOSS, FAT LOSS

In a study conducted by Tremblay, et al., they discovered that HIIT training resulted in 9x the reduction in skinfold thickness when compared to endurance training. Endurance training requires twice the amount of energy output as well as having a lower intensity when compared to HIIT. Their study explained that fat loss is greater when intensity is higher (Tremblay, Angelo, Simoneau, Jean-Aime, Bouchard, Claude, (2010).
